Koloa’s Nana
My Nana was born in 1957 and came to New Zealand in 1975 .
She came to New Zealand by plane. Her reason for coming to
New Zealand was to work for a better life and future. She lived
in Grey Lynn Auckland with some family friends. My Nana
chose New Zealand because it is close to home in Samoa.
My Nana came to New Zealand by plane without any stop
on the way. My Nana first visited Auckland and she stayed
in Grey Lynn. She found the people here very friendly.
She said that New Zealand was bigger than Samoa,
and that the weather was very cold.
She said homesickness affected her.
My Nana still misses her family back in Samoa but
New Zealand is her home now. She has been back
to Samoa a lot of times for funerals and family matters.
